Floor is down

Got the flooring installed. Unfortunately, we thought the flooring was 4' wide but it was considerably smaller so I had to piece it together. Lets just put it this way, I will never make a living laying cushion floor. Looks OK but the pattern does not match in the sleeping cabin but that will be covered with a mattress anyway. Could only work a few hours today cause we have to head for oma and opa's for the Family Pics. :) That's OK too because the flooring cement needs time to set.

Made some progress

Got the walls permanently up and secured. Was a little worried about the front panel when it came time to put the roof on. Sanded the front down to the perfect angle to match the roof and got most of the spars up. Sanded the inside and outside of the walls before I put them up. Started working on the Separation between sleeping area and galley. Made an error with the divider wall, not sure why one end is 16 3/8 and the other end is as it should be 16 1/2. Squared it up and had a guide down but some how the guide must have slipped. Will take it to Dad's tomorrow and rip it on the table saw. That should work. Will also get the flooring laid tomorrow because once I have it down, I can not do anything for 24 hours. There is a perfect spot for the cooler.

Walls are up.....

Did not get back at it til almost 3:00 this afternoon so did not get too much done. Got the door and window cut out. Had to set a guide for the circular saw to make sure the cut was straight. (dad's suggestion and it was a good one) Worked very well!!








The pieces that I spliced in yesterday have set perfectly.











Got the front panel cut and could not wait to see what it all looks like together. I put the sides and the front up but nothing is squared up yet and it is all held together with 4 screws. I am digging the shape though, it is starting to look like something. Not a true teardrop because the front is square. It works for me though. I may add a tongue box later for more storage in the sleeping cabin but I will wait for one season of camping first. Thinking about it though.

Nothing photo worthy today..

Nothing photo worthy today but it did get stuff done. For some reason I veered off my original plan and cut the sides separately instead of on top of each other at the same time. This was a mistake because it took a few hours of sanding to make sure the roof line is the same on each side. Change the door plan as well to a square door. Spliced the 6" X 13" piece on the end of each side. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the sides and front up. There will be pics tomorrow.

Made great progress today!

What a great day I had. Got the whole frame painted, old deck back on, floor of the camper framed, insulated and the 1/2" plywood floor deck installed. Had to set the floor deck 3/4" inside the main deck because there is no room to attach the walls on the outside because the tires are so close.

Got one side cut to see how the profile is going to look. Rather happy with it. There is a problem though, I have to splice a small piece at the end of the wall. A little worried, but will deal with it when the time comes to make the hatch.



Ordered the converter, right door handle, rear galley handle, porch light and butyl tape for the windows. Have to get it from the states but still got a great deal even with the shipping. Converter is for AC/DC as well as a charger for the battery. Bounced back and forth about whether to do just AC - like your house plugs 110/120 volt or DC - off a battery which give me 12 volt lighting. If I go off grid, with the converter I will have enough juice for 7 days of lighting and even enough juice to run a coffee maker for a few days.

Friends are dropping off some cushion floor tomorrow left over from renovations they did. It is a perfect size for the floor. Thanks Brenda and Ed!!

Been at a Stand Still

Been at a standstill for a few weeks but hope to get back at it by next weekend. Am just waiting for the axle of the trailer to get moved back. While Paul is moving it back, I decided I might as well put some springs under it as well to ensure I won't be banging the heck out of the camper while traveling down the road.

Other than that, I have been doing some research on types of power supplies I am going to install. I have teeter tottered back and forth from just AC to AC/DC. I think I am going for the AC/DC connection? Found a source for a converter panel with charging unit in it that is reasonably priced. The same source also has the door latches for the cabin area and the galley area I have been looking for.

I have caviar tastes but a Tuna budget! Stay tuned, the build will resume soon!

Now for the windows

Since I have the windows, might as well get them ready too..... When buddy took them out of the 17' Boler, all he did was cut them out with lots of Fiber glass boarding them. Might as well get them ready!! Got the 3 big ones done but the small one not sure how I am going to deal with that as it is riveted to the fiber glass. Will probably try to drill them out tomorrow. They cleaned up really well though. In the pic you can not see how clean they got, but they are great! The little one is a crank out and I am going to put this up by the head of the camper so it can be opened even if it is raining. Should work well....

Well, since the trailer is away, decided to get the roofing tar for the underside of the trailer deck. Wow, glad I bought gloves! What a messy job!

Getting the trailer ready for the reno

Well, even though the trailer is away getting the axle pushed back a foot, there is still some stuff I can do. On Saturday first thing I had to get the deck off the trailer. Was not sure how I was going to get this done but then Tim came out and asked him to help me push it up on its side. Then I was able to get to the underside and get the bolts off and kick the top deck off. Dad came and hooked on to the trailer and we took it to Mickie's and Paul's where Paul is going to move the axle 12" back. I will feel much better knowing it is where it should be for this project. Instead of welding the fender back on, Paul is going to weld on brackets so I can bolt the fenders back on instead of having them there permanently. This way while I am building the camper part, I can have the fender off and out of my way. He also mentioned that he has rounded fenders so I may swap out the square ones for the rounded one? We will see. Also, since I am getting this done, I asked him to weld 2 cross members on the tongue just for added security and if I want to add a utility box on the front, I will have those as well.
